Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya party, has joined the Azimio La Umoja alliance, which is led by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
After a closed-door meeting with the opposition chairman at Nairobi's Serena Hotel on Wednesday, the experienced politician joined the Azimio camp.
Raila is Karua's favored successor in the 2022 contest, she said a joint press conference with the Azimio leader.
"I'm here to confirm that from now on, Narc Kenya and I will be supporting Raila Odinga, the Azimio La Umoja flagbearer for the president," she declared.
Karua has stated that she will continue to campaign for Raila's presidential candidacy.
She praised the opposition leader as the finest option for the country, promising to unite her people behind him.
Michael Orwa, the secretary-general of Narc Kenya, revealed that the party has decided to hold talks with the ODM leader with the hope of collaborating ahead of the August 9 elections.
Before Karua stated that a deal had been reached, Orwa remarked, "The party has resolved to begin having a discourse about working together with the leader of the Azimio."
Her decision to join Azimio La Umoja comes just one day after she hinted at supporting Raila Odinga's campaign.
In the event that the notion is tabled, Karua told Citizen TV on Tuesday that she is open to deputizing Raila for the top seat.
Karua has been mentioned as a possible running partner for the country's top presidential candidates
On the side of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria encouraged the Narc leader on Tuesday to select their side and deputize Deputy President William Ruto, who is running for president.
Raila's decision to join Azimio La Umoja is a major victory for him as he seeks support from the Mt Kenya region.
Karua is one of the country's most powerful female politicians, with the ability to sway large crowds in her favor.
The female politician, who entered politics in the 1990s, is actively involved in strategizing for high-stakes polls such as the August 9 polls.
